GULF ISLANDS, BC: Firecast Full Repair System

Gulf Islands, BC

A Firecast Full Repair System was installed into a 100 year old cabin by Complete Chimney. This dated cabin lacked a clay flue liner. 4” of masonry was set against the home. The Firecast allowed for zero clearance in the firebox and smoke chamber. A 7” stainless steel liner was slid down the existing unlined chimney and brought it up to zero clearance. The owner requested that the Firecast be painted terracotta to match the surrounding façade.

REVELSTOKE, BC: Wood Floor Model

Snow had pushed the wooden chase box away from house and therefore the fireplace had to be repaired or replaced, but the owner wanted to keep the integrity of the existing stone facing. The owner chose the Firecast Wood Floor Model which could be installed on an existing platform that was not damaged from the snow load. However, to achieve this, the Firecast had to be installed backwards as we could not fit the back brick and metal shroud through the inside fireplace opening. As well, there was a chimney coming up from the basement that had to be allowed for. The solution was to install the Firecast then build the chase box after the Firecast was installed.

First, we removed the old black box fireplace and removed the drywall that the stone had been laid against. The metal radiation shield and wood floor kit was set in place. The back brick was lifted up and placed into the metal shroud. Thermix fill was poured into the area around the cavity between the back brick and the internal area of the metal shroud. From the inside we attached the 8” flare panels. We had to cast a header section as the actual opening was 3 in higher than the 28½” height of the firebox. The area between the unit and the facing was sealed on the outside as well the area behind the new header section. The cast pipe adapter was installed and the 8” chimney was attached and completed. The wood chase box was completed to include a metal chase cover. Firecast Wood Floor Model is tested to total zero clearance.

SALMON ARM, BC: Firecast Full Repair

Firecast Fireplaces were able to overcome serious clearance issues with our Full Repair kit. The wood siding was attached to the outer surface of the masonry chimney which made for big challenges. Beams were supported onto the masonry and was closer than the required 12” of solid masonry. The smoke chamber was 18 ft. high and far surpassed the rule of not exceeding the width of the fireplace opening. The height made it very difficult too sweep and that caused chimney fire. Luckily, Firecast Fireplaces offer versatile and safe replacement, repair and restorative fireplaces.
